Food Pantry Sunday Begins January 18

Well, we now have the official word: we are truly in a recession. The current recession actually began back in December of 2007 and as we all can tell, the affects are being felt close to home. Friends and families are facing being laid off from work and many people are wonder where they will get the resources to feed themselves and their families. Local foodshelves are reporting that they are seeing a higher need now as opposed to the same period last year.

In the past, the third Sunday of the month has been designated as Food Shelf Sunday. In light of the current economic crisis, it is time to start the tradition again. Beginning on Sunday, December 21, Food Shelf Sunday will start again. We will be accepting non-perishable food items for the Groveland Foodshelf, a nearby ministry that has been supported by First Christian for over 30 years. Please bring your items and place them in foodshelf box during the offering. You can also support Groveland Foodshelf by donating money, which allows them to purchase food more economically than any of us can by ourselves. If you are interested in donating, checks can be made out to First Christian Church with the words “Groveland Foodshelf” in the memo line.

In this time when the ills winds of economy blow and affect many families in Minnesota, please consider being Christ to a person in need.
