“A Christmas Card to the Community”

In the weeks following Thanksgiving, people at First were busy decorating the windows of the church as a way to share the Light of Christ to the neighborhood.  The art project was the brainchild of Deb Murphy, a member of First and a student at United Theological Seminary in New Brighton.  She had to do an art project for her arts and evangelism class and was reminded of something her mother did when she was growing up.  She calls it a “Christmas Card to the Community.” Deb says:

When I was a kid, my mother used to go through our old Christmas cards and pick one that
had interesting art work. She would then use this to guide her in painting something similar onto our picture window — using tempura paint which my brother and I had the privilege of washing off every Epiphany. This was one way of decorating the house that let us stay inside and warm.It became an annual tradition for both our family and the town. Many, many cars would drive by to “see what Jeanette has painted this year.”

Several members helped Deb make her designs a reality. We are thankful for the talents of Deb and the hard work of many members of First. We also hope you enjoyed the wonderful work of art! You can see the photos showcasing the at project by going to First Christian’s Flickr page.
