Ron and Judy’s Excellent Adventure, Revisted
Here is another letter from First Christian member Ron Anderson, who along with wife Judy are on the road doing mission projects along the way.
One of the great things about traveling, is the people we meet. One such person was Jason. Jason lived in El Paso Tx. If you know about Texas geography, it’s about 500 miles from Beaumont. Jason heard about the blitz build on the radio in El Paso, he had vacation time to burn, and decided to come. He signed up through Habitat, but joined us for the work and noon lunch. He stayed in various motels and had a car rental. We gave Jason a ride to lunch several times and the first time, the back of the truck had come open and Jason helped me chase down stuff that had fallen out. Jason had traveled to Beaumont on the train, an ardous 24 hour journey with many stops. When he was ready to leave, we volunteered to help get his rental returned and take him to the train. It turns out there is no train station, it’s an open field with a little gravel next to the track. When we got there there were two people there from south of the border. They wanted to know how long it would take to get to New York. We figured that they wanted to hop trains away from the border. Jason insisted on staying and waiting for his train, without us waiting with him. About threre hours later we got a call from Jason, he had missed his train. Some one told him the train was late, he walked two blocks to warm up and get something to eat. Upon getting back to this lonely dark field, he saw his train pulling out. He ran through tall grass and weeds and just missed it. I told him I’d be right over to pick him up. To him, my white truck was just like the flood helicopter rescuing victims. Jason stayed in our camper that night and I took him to the bus depot in the morning. Traveling across Texas to meet my Mom in Arizona, we looked up Jason as we still had his phone number. This time he insisted on taking us to dinner, on New Years Eve. I had no idea how greatful he was for that rescue and overnight stay, to us it was so little, to him it meant, safty, security, a shower, and a good nights sleep. I don’t know if Jason is a believer, we certianly invited him to attend church when he returned to El paso. I do know that Jason was doing Gods work. Blessings to all RON
