Mission Emphasis Sunday at First
This coming Sunday, February 15, is a Sunday at First Christian where the emphasis will be on mission. It’s the third Sunday of month and that means it’s Food Pantry Sunday. We are asking people to please bring their non-perishable food to bring to worship, or cash donations to support Groveland Foodshelf.
Second, this coming Sunday is one of two Sundays that we are recieving an offering for Week of Compassion, the relief and development agency of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Johnny Wray, the former Director of Week of Compassion met with local Disciples in November of 2008. He told us of how the people of Bosnia saw the monies received from Week of Compassion, as halal, something that was very special. That part of the world recieved money from various agencies, but they saw this small money as something that came from people’s hearts. The offerings we give to Week of Compassion will change the lives of many both here in America as the deal with the aftermath of disasters like tornadoes, floods and hurricanes and around the world, feeding the hungry and clothing the naked.
Finally, the Outreach Committee is sponsoring a forum on the Refugee Services of the Minnesota Council of Churches. Our guests, will share stories of immigration and information about what Refugee Services does to help and support those new to our community.
What does it take to help new immigrants?
How do we help? What is needed?
What supports are in place for the longer term needs of immigrants and refugees?
What questions do YOU have about immigration? About the experiences of refugees? Please join us Sunday February 15 at Noon, In the new Hearthstone Room.
A light lunch and refreshments will be served.
We hope to see you this Sunday!
