Pastor’s Lenten Devotional — Day 4

Friday night I went out on some errands.  I failed to succeed in getting anything I set out to get, but instead of getting uptight/upset about it, I turned it into a journey of discovery.  I journeyed out into the Western suburbs on Hwy. 7, and came back on Hwy. 5, and in so doing traveled to parts of the Twin Cities I hadn’t been to before.  Passing by all the homes on the streets, I wondered about who dwelt in them, what their lives were like — their struggles, joys, pains, family circumstances, etc.  I gave thanks for the beauty of the neighborhoods; I repented of the effect that my drive had on the carbon footprint of our planet.

My journey was a failure; my journey was a success.  And it reminded me, once again, that sometimes when we start out on a journey, with our own plans for accomplishment, God frequently (always?) has other plans.  The important part is to start out on the journey.

This is a lovely little reflection on just a little small thing in life, and how it can take on meaning. Nicely done!
