Maundy Thursday at First Christian

| March 28, 2010 | 0 Comments

Maundy Thursday (April 1) – We begin with the Pastor’s Soup Supper at 5: 30, followed by a service
of foot-washing and communion at 6:30. Pastor Bob is putting together three delicious soups — Chili,
Chicken Barley, and Lentil Sausage – with the help of Sandy Morgan; it’s meant to be a simple meal commemorating
the simple meal of the Passover at which Jesus added the observance of Holy Communion.
People should also wear appropriate footwear for the foot washing observance in worship, though a
hand-washing option will be available.
Prayer Vigil (April 1-2) – following the prayer service will be the beginning of our overnight prayer
vigil, in example of Jesus’ prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane. The sanctuary will be available by signup
for 30 or 60 minute intervals from the end of the service to midnight; then people will be encouraged
to sign up for prayer in their homes from midnight to 9:00, whereupon the sanctuary then becomes available
again. The prayer vigil ends at 3:00 p.m., the “ninth hour” of the day when Jesus died, at the time
he gave up his Spirit.
