Open and Affirming Presentation Sunday, May 6

Dennis Sanders : May 5, 2012 12:43 pm : news

On May 15, the Board of First Christian Church will vote on making First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Minneapolis an official Open and Affirming Congregation in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).  Open and Affirming is a designation Disciples of Christ congregation can use when declaring publicly that they are welcoming to gay and lesbian persons and their friends and family.  While the congregation has historically been welcoming to gays and lesbians, First Christian has not publicly stated its welcome.

In preparation for the vote, there will be a forum on Sunday, May 6 to discuss the issue of becoming Open and Affirming as well as any questions you have regarding homesexuality in general.  The meeting will take place at 9:15am in place of morning Sunday School time in the Lydia Room.  A team of church leaders will be on hand to answer questions.  GLAD Alliance, the national organization of gay and lesbian Disciples, has a list of articles you can read in preparation for the event.  You can access them by clicking this link.

We hope that this will be a time of honest discussion and discerment.  Please be in prayer as we come and reason together as a community of faith.

Sincerely,

Bob Brite, Transitional Pastor
Dennis Sanders, Associate Pastor
Deb Murphy
Kirsten Cackoski

SpringHouse Joins Minneapolis-St. Paul Home Tour

Dennis Sanders : April 17, 2012 8:44 pm : news

The Minneapolis/Saint Paul Home Tour is Saturday, April 28, 10 am -5 pm and Sunday, April 29, 1-5 pm. SpringHouse Ministry Center is on the tour! Home Tour Guides can be found in the back of the sanctuary (we are on page 5, #13). We will need people from all three congregations to be in the building during tour hours to answer questions and show people around. A sign-up sheet is in the back. We also hope to provide a snack, so let Lu Griffin and Mike Hesano know if you can help with that. Questions? Ask Deb – church office: 612-870-1868 or office@fccminneapolis.org.

Splash! Children’s Summer Day Camp

Dennis Sanders : April 12, 2012 11:09 pm : news

“Splash!” is our theme for this summer’s childrens day camp. It will be June 18-22, 9 am-4 pm, and we’re hosting day camp here at SpringHouse. Registration forms are available at church— it’s not too early to plan for this week of summer day camp. Volunteers (adults and teenagers) will be needed, too. First, Lyndale, and Salem are hosting the Day Camp here at SpringHouse and four other congregations are participating as well (Zion Lutheran, Our Saviour’s Lutheran, Bethel Lutheran, and Calvary Lutheran). The days will include crafts, worship, games, bible study, snacks in the morning, and then activities away from church most afternoons (a trip to a nature center, YMCA on Blasidell, Whittier Park, and others). With Splash as the theme and SpringHouse as the location, water is the message that flows though it all and it brings up a variety of biblical images and justice activities–we’ll jump in.
