A Traveling Photo Exhibition on Homelessness will come to FCC on January 30.

Minneapolis Community and Technical College , Downtown Congregations to End Homelessness and Community Emergency Service are sponsoring a traveling photo exhibit, “Scratching the Surface: A Glimpse into Poverty and Homelessness.”
Through intimate images taken at shelters and organizations that work to end homelessness around the Twin Cities, members of the project hope to dispel
some of the myths about what it looks like to be homeless. Faculty and students in the Photography and Digital Imaging department at MCTC contributed images to this exhibit.

First Christian will host this photo exhibit beginning January 30 until February 13. We hope you will stop by, look at the photos and come away understanding more about the nature of homelessness in Minnesota and how to best solve it. Please invite your friends.

First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Minneapolis is pleased to present the opera, “The Christmas Rose” on December 17, 2010 at 7:30PM.

The opera, written by English composer Frank Bridge, tells the Christmas story from a child’s point of view. Miriam and her brother, Ruben, decide to set out on a journey to find the baby Jesus and in the end present the Christ-child with a miraculous gift.

Brianna Farah, a member of First Christian’s Chancel Choir and part of the University of Minnesota’s Opera Theatre will direct the Christmas Rose. James Barnett, the Interim Music Director at First Christian Church and a Doctoral candidate for Collaborative Piano at the University of Minnesota, will conduct.

The event is free, but a donation will be taken for Feed My Starving Children, a Twin Cities-based charity that feeds hungry children around the world. For more information on Feed My Starving Children, please go to www.fmsc.org.

First Christian Church is located at 2201 First Avenue South in Minneapolis. For more information, please contact the church at 612-870-1868 or by email at office@fccminneapolis.org. Please feel free to download a poster and share it with your family and friends.

September 12 is our “Rally Sunday.” Sunday worship will go back to its regular time of 10:30am. Sunday School classes will start as well at 9:15am. September 12 will be a special Sunday School intergenerational class led by Deb Murphy. Come early, and bring your artistic side!

Choir practice will restart on Wednesday, September 8 at 7:45pm. If you like to sing, please come and join us!
