Mission
At First Christian, we seek to be an alive community of faith striving to serve all people.
-Vision Statement of First Christian Church
First Christian has a long history of not only giving of their financial resources to aid to “least of these,” but also rolling up our sleeves and getting “dirty for Jesus.” If you are interested in taking part in our various mission opportunities, please contact Associate Pastor Dennis Sanders at associatepastor@fccminneapolis.org for more information.
Below are some of the ministries we take part in.
Groveland Foodshelf: For over 30 years, First Christian has supported this local foodshelf which is housed at Plymouth Congregational Church. We have a Food Pantry Sunday on the Third Sunday of the month where people can drop off Food and Cash Donations.
Feed My Starving Children: This Twin Cities-based charity ships food packets to children in parts of the world where a meal is hard to come by. Teams from First Christian regularly go to one of the three Metro packing centers to make the packets. Folks feel they are making a impact on solving global hunger. Come and join us sometime!
St. Stephens Human Services: Every third Saturday of the month, members of First Christian go to make a meal for the homeless shelter. Interested? Please let us know.
Community Emergency Service: Located in the nearby Phillips neighborhood, this on one of newest partners. CES started in 1971 as a ministry of Augustana Lutheran Church. CES runs a food pantry, provides Meals on Wheels, as well as help for families in transition.
Week of Compassion: Week of Compassion is the disaster and relief agency of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). The offerings we give make a difference to people here in the United States dealing with hurricanes, tornadoes and other weather-related disasters and around the world, helping those dealing with wars and famines.
Downtown Congregations To End Homelessness- First Christian is part of an interfaith coalition of faith communities in and around Downtown Minneapolis that are committed to finding ways to end homelessness in Minneapolis.
