Open Table Ministry

Every Sunday at First Christian, we gather around a table to celebrate communion. The act of communion is very central to our Disciples of Christ heritage and we Disciples believe that everyone is welcome at the Table, since it isn’t our Table, but Christ’s table.

At First Christian, we strive to make known that all our welcome at Christ’s Table, no matter who they are.

Open Table is a ministry of support, fellowship and welcome to gay, lesbian, bisexual and trangendered (GLBT) persons and allies who seek to follow Christ and welcomed to First Christian.  We seek to be an active and visible presence through fellowship (potlucks and game nights) as well as advocacy.

You(th) Can Talk To Us

One of the programs of Open Table, You(th) Can Talk To Us, is geared toward LGBTQA youth. Gay teens and allies can find a safe space to be in fellowship, have fun, and to discuss their issues, as well as questions of faith.

Our fall start-up will be a pizza party on Friday, October 8 at 6 pm. From then on, You(th) Can Talk to Us will meet monthly on Fridays.  Besides spending time getting to know each other and listening to each other, we will have board games available.
