Presenter: Minister DeShay Jackson
DeShay Jackson (They/Them) serves as Minister of Music and Worship Arts for The Gathering, A Womanist Church, in Dallas, Texas. They hold a Master’s In Divinity from Brite Divinity School with certificates in Black Church Studies and Gender/Sexual Justice and a Bachelor’s in Music Education from Culver-Stockton College. Their narrative work can be read in Colors of Hope: A Devotional Journal from LGBTQ+ Christians, published by Chalice Media Group and watched on Season 3 Episode 1 of HBO’s Were Here, as one of the drag kids.
DeShay has performed with a host of instrumental and vocal ensembles in spaces such as the Washington National Cathedral in Washington, D.C., and Bass Performance Hall in Fort Worth, TX,. During their time at Brite Divinity, they served as vice-moderator for the Brite Black Seminarians and served on the chapel worship committee as music liaison, worship leader, and student vocal ensemble director.
DeShay utilizes a Womanist viewpoint to explore the intersections of theology, spirituality, Black queerness, music, and cuisine.
