The Minneapolis Interfaith Relief Fund (MIRF) has been established by the senior clergy of the downtown interfaith congregations in response to requests for financial support from the communities affected by unrest in the city, following the police killing of George Floyd.
An Allocation Team of senior clergy (Pastor Laurie is one of the members of this team) will disburse funds to agencies and partners in communities of color and in the indigenous community that are working directly with those most affected. To learn more and to donate, click here.

I am inquiring on behalf of Global Language Connections in Minneapolis. They are doing community service work for the elders in the high rises in Central and Cedar Riverside in Minneapolis. They are looking for funds to provide community service workers that speak Somali and Spanish to help elders get their prescriptions filled and to communicate with their doctors. Many of the elders they have talked to have not seen a primary care doctor in 3 months or had their medications refilled. These elders had their clinics closed and their pharmacies destroyed. Global Language Connections knows the communities and wants to provide this service . They need financial assistance to do this service to hire workers to communicate with the elders and drive to get their prescriptions at alternative locations now that the Walgreens and CVS are no longer available by bus, light rail or walking in their neighborhood. They are hoping to get $5,000 dollars to provide this service. They do have an article I can share with you about this need. Their address is 3618 Lake Street, Minneapolis , Minnesota 55406 . Their phone is 612-249-6100. On their Facebook page they have shared their op ed of what they are doing to be a solution to this high need. I am a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. I am also a retired nurse who serves on the board for Physicians for a National Health Program-Minnesota . We normally just advocate and educate for equitable heath care coverage. The pandemic and the George Floyd strategy has changed our focus some to addressing the inner city needs of lack of accessible primary care and obtaining medications without city pharmacies.
