Rev. Dr. Lisa Barnett is Associate Professor of American Religious History at Phillips Theological Seminary and Director of Formation for Disciples students. She earned her PhD in U.S. History at TCU in May of 2017. She has a Master of Theology in American religious history from Brite Divinity School (Fort Worth) in 2012 and a Master of Divinity degree from Brite in 2008. She is also an ordained minister with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). She currently serves as a trustee for the Disciples of Christ Historical Society, is a member of the Chalice Press board, and is one of the Disciples representatives to the DOC-ELCA bilaterial dialogue.
Lisa has a chapter in Border Policing: A History of Enforcement and Evasion in North America, edited by George Díaz and Holly Karibo. She also has a chapter that will be included in Religion in the North American West, forthcoming with University of Nebraska Press and a chapter for another edited collection, American West between the World Wars, forthcoming with the University of Oklahoma Press. Her book, Peyote Politics: The Making of the Native American Church, 1880-1937, was released in Spring 2025 with the University of Oklahoma Press.
