Rita Nakashima Brock is a Commissioned Minister in the Upper Midwest Region of the Christian Church (DOC) and a theologian whose award-winning books include Journeys by Heart: A Christology of Erotic Power (1988); Casting Stones: Prostitution and Liberation in Asia and the United States (1997 with Susan Thistlethwaite); Proverbs of Ashes: Violence, Redemptive Suffering, and The Search for What Saves Us (2001); and Saving Paradise: How Christianity Traded Love of This World for Crucifixion and Empire (2008–the latter two with Rebecca Ann Parker). Her book, Soul Repair: Recovering from Moral Injury after War (2012 with Gabriella Lettini) was one of the first published books on moral injury, and she co-founded the Soul Repair Center at Brite Divinity School at Texas Christian University. From 2017 to 2025, she was Senior Vice-President for Moral Injury Recovery Programs at Volunteers of America.
