Each year on March 31, the world observes Transgender Day of Visibility (TDOV) to raise awareness about transgender people. It is a day to celebrate the lives and contributions of trans people, while also drawing attention to the disproportionate levels of poverty, discrimination, and violence the community faces compared to cisgender (non-transgender) people.

International TDOV was created in 2010 by trans advocate Rachel Crandall. Crandall, the head of Transgender Michigan, created TDOV in response to the overwhelming majority of media stories about transgender people being focused on violence. She hoped to create a day where people could celebrate the lives of transgender people, while simultaneously acknowledging that due to discrimination, not every trans person can or wants to be visible.

There are many events coming up that you can be a part of:

Trans Rites of Passage Ceremony
A Ritual Blessing of Sacred Witness for Trans and Non-Binary Folks
(In observance of Trans Day of Visibility)

Sun. Mar. 30 – 12:30 PM in the Gathering Space
Led by Seth Anderson-Matz and Walken Schweigert
$10 suggested offering

Trans life is marked by moments of emergence and renewal as we come into new identities, names, pronouns, hormones, bodies, voices, documents, and more. Like any rite of passage, each of these pivotal events deserves to be recognized and celebrated in community. In observance of Trans Day of Visibility, please join co-leaders Seth Anderson-Matz and Walken Schweigert (plus Max Brumberg-Kraus and AP Looze!) on the afternoon of Sunday, March 30th at 12:30pm at SpringHouse Ministry Center to celebrate all that is often left unseen–the moments of becoming that compose our holy trans lives.
This event is supported by FCC’s Open Table Ministry, though the ceremony itself will be multi-traditional (read: not an explicitly Christian liturgy; all traditions and practices are welcome!).
If you want to join through Zoom, please contact Seth in the church office to get the link.
