“They RISE UP ANEW each morning, so great is God’s faithfulness.” Lamentations 3: 21-23
Week of Compassion is the relief, refugee, and sustainable development mission fund of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in the United States and Canada. For nearly 80 years, Week of Compassion has pursued its mission, working with partners to alleviate suffering throughout the world, with a vision of a world where God’s people transform suffering into hope. We are privileged this year, as we are every year, to be able to give our offerings for this mission work.
Unfortunately, it seems that this fund will continue to be needed for a long time to come. Compassion will always be needed—for people in Kentucky and Missouri who suffered from tornadoes and floods, war in Ukraine, and today, earthquakes in Turkey and Syria. The amount of suffering in the world can seem overwhelming. We know that many people get up each day and experience worry, fear, disease…lament that will not end. We may be among the exhausted or fatigued, either now or in the future. God never is. God’s compassion never fails. We know everything that has led us here. And because of that we hope. And we RISE UP ANEW each morning. We do. Because God does.
First Christian has always been most generous in giving to Week of Compassion. We may not be able to help “on the ground” but our offerings assist those who bring hope to the hopeless. You can submit your offerings for Week of Compassion through the Givelify app or send a check to the church office with “Week of Compassion” in the memo or on an attached note.
